Haiti earthquake and relief by AMURTEL/AMURT - Haiti

On 12 January, 2010 there was a strong earthquake in Haiti. People here have lost everything and are confused about what their next steps would be. Most have lost children, parents, friends and relatives and everyone has lost their homes. 
The AMURTEL-Haiti unit was the first NGO to provide relief to the thousands of homeless people from 14th January, 2010. Their relief work was done in collaboration with ACTED (Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development), UMCOR  and Global Medic . They distributed :

  • Plastic sheets to 4000 families
  • Hygiene kits to 2300 families
  • 150,000 Aquatab water
  • Two weeks worth of rice, beans, oil and salt to approximately 7,000 people
  • Water purifying tablets
  • Medical treatment to over 2000 people
