ANANDA MARGA SERVING TSUNAMI VICTIMS IN NICOBER ISLANDS

The group of Ananda Marga Monks and Nun who left mainland India on 23rd of January from Vishakapattanam are now serving the people in Nicober Islands. Nicober group of Islands have 22 big and small Islands. 12 of them are only inhabited by human beings.

Nicober is basically earth quake prone area. In the last centuary many earth quake occurred in these Islands. Most of the tribes actually lives in these islands. Therefore, there is restrictions for outsiders in entering and living in some of these islands.

Ananda Marga has been serving people in these islands since 1966 when no other missions have even entered these islands. Only Parliamentarian belonging to Congress from Andaman strongly recommended to Home Ministry the name of Ananda Marga to continue their service in these Nicober islands. Home Ministry in Andaman and Nicober islands allowed only Ananda Marga mission to work in these islands. Ananda Marga first established its Primary School and other Welfare activities in the year 1966 at Katchal and Kamerta in Nancowrie island and Campbell Bay of Great Nicober. Besides this Island they are also working in Chowra and Trinket Islands.

Members of the relief team are distributing large quantity of food materials, medicines, children's and Women garments, mosquito nets, and cooking utensils, candles and Lantrens. Most of the people benefited here are Nicoberise tribes. Assistant Commissioner who is the In charge of relief operation for Tsunami victims in these islands has high praised the services of Ananda Marga missionaries and volunteers in these islands. ANOTHER SHIPMENT OF GOODS SENT TO PORT BLAIR, ANDAMAN & NICOBER ISLAND

Another shipment of goods left for Port Blair from Vishakapattanam Port on 3rd' February evening by M V Akbar. The ship was delayed due to loading of large quantity of steel plates for building.

Due to devastating affects of Tsunami these Islands needs the supply of essential materials for a considerable period of time. People of some of the smaller and far off Islands still needs basic necessities such as food supplies, clothing, medicine, sleeping materials and supply of school materials. Ananda Marga will continue its supply of goods regularly from main land.

This time in our shipment we sent;

Andaman district Rotary Club gave us 3 truckload of rice, cooking oil, and other food materials which were taken to Nancowry Island for the Tsunami victims.

We should not forget to mention special thanks to Dr. Gopal Shastrijii who has done tremendous work along with his staff to send several shipments from Vishakhapattanam Port to Port Blair, Andaman & Nicober Islands for AMURT to distribute amongst the tsunami victims. Without his kind help it could be really very difficult to organize those shipments with the relief goods to Andaman and Nicober Islands.
